Named Boundary Civil Cross Sections & Model Naming Convention

I had a question regarding the model and cross section sheet naming convention when working with named boundaries. After I have made my group of cross section named boundaries at even stationing (ex. 505+00.00, 506+00.00, 507+00.00, etc.), whenever I go to the "Create Cross Section Drawing" tool, it wants to name the associated models and sheets in a different pattern that does not match up with the cross section stationing (ex. 505+00.1, 505+00.2, 505+00.3, etc.). I have even attempted to go to the "Create Drawing Dialog" box and manually enter in the corresponding station in the "name" field and it automatically adjusts back to the uneven stationing. Is there a way to adjust the naming convention settings so that the station values will match the named boundary values?

  • This happens to me if I perform the following steps:

    1) Create Named Boundaries using the "Create Named Boundaries" tool.

    2) Create Cross Section Drawings from the Named Boundaries. The naming convention matches the station of the Named Boundary.

    3) Delete all of my cross section drawing and sheet models (likely I messed up an option when creating the named boundaries).

    4) Delete all of my named boundaries.

    5) Repeat steps 1 and 2.

I usually just create a new container file if I have to cut new cross sections, because it would mess with the Sheet Index/XS cut at specific non-interval stations otherwise.

  • I went ahead and created a new container file and attached all me references. Instead of creating the cross section drawings and sheets in a separate step I had them created straight from the "Create Named Boundaries" tool and everything seems to correctly match now.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Ben,

This happens when you don't also delete the Saved Views that are created with the sections. Open the Saved Views Dialog and delete any Saved Views and you'll find the Model naming works as it should.

Saved Views for sections will get deleted if you deleted the Named Boundaries in the Named Boundaries dialog, but seem to stay around if you delete them graphically on screen (defect i think?)

    Regards,

    Mark
