[CONNECT] Any way to Force Ignore Loading all Nested References?

Hi all,

This is a bit of a weird one - there is a bug in OpenRoads Designer where it loads Nested References, even when Nesting is disabled. The display of Nested References is honoured, but you can see them being read on file open and there are numerous "file not found" messages for these Nested references in Message Centre. This is compounded by the fact that files in ProjectWise do not copy out these Nested References (as it sees they are disabled) and we get a "freeze" of the session every time it does something to attach a reference or open a file.

As there may be sometime till the next release where this will (hopefully) be fixed, does anyone know of any variables that can force the Microstation environment to not load Nested References?

I need all the reference files, but need to somehow force it not to look at Nesting (we don't use Nesting anyway due to the overcomplexity of tracking OpenRoads dynamic element relationships). As we have dozens of large reference files, each with their own long list of reference files and models, this is really slowing us down.

Regards,

Mark

  • Do you mean that you attach your file with No Nesting, but it is being treated as Nested (with nested ref. display off)?

    Eek!

  • Thankfully not that bad - it does not display Nested elements and looks to work as normal, but you see all the Nested Design files being loaded on the file open dialog and "file not found" messages in the session when it can't find them. It makes ORD so much slower than necessary!

  • Mark,

Is this problem limited to ORD 2020 R2, or have you noticed it before?

  • I'm pretty sure this has been an issue since around 2019 R1-2, but its taken me a very long time to demonstrate it for a Defect to be filed.

It is clearly an issue in ProjectWise, but i am convinced it is also a general problem in local projects as well, but haven't had the time to check it properly.

  • Yesterday I noticed something similar, also with a project stored on Projectwise.
I was working in a corridor file (file 1) and kept getting reference missing messages in the Message Center
In this case the error was caused by a badly removed reference (file 2), where it was only removed from the 2D model, but still connected in the 3D model.
The missing reference files were only referenced in file 2.

ORD does appear to be reading nested reference files, but at this moment I'm not sure whether they are actually opened and read, or just "noticed" as being a reference to one of the files that is being read, since I'm not seeing any missing reference messages when working with the other files.
