Does anyone know why there is a difference between the possible volume options for a terrain and a mesh?
For a terrain there are the following volume options:
- Design
- Existing
- None
- Subgrade
- Substrata

For a mesh there are

RE: Volume option terrain vs. mesh

Hi Mark

That is how i did this time. The problem is that some of the soft soil is outside the road corridor, and I only want the volume inside the corridor. I fixed it by creating a boundary around the soft soil, do a clipped terrain, and then calculate the volume between the two terrains. But that is an unnecessary work around in my opinion.

It would be better and easier if I could set a volume option to 'unsuitable' to the soft soil terrain. Then OpenRoads should calculate the volume inside the corridor in the same process as I calculate all the other corridor volumes using 'Create Cut Fill Volumes'.

I can't use a surface template in this case.

We get the contours of the bottom of the soft soil from the geotechnical engineers, and it is those contours that we triangulate to create a terrain.

I need the volume between the terrain for the soft soil and the existing terrain.

But do you know why there is a difference for volume options between a terrain and a mesh?

RE: Volume option terrain vs. mesh

Take the terrain, and apply a surface template to it to create a mesh, and then use that for your 'unsuitable'.
