I have a source for LAZ files from another agency, but even if we use the tools to extract the LAZ to LAS, the version is not compatible with our SELECTseries products. And since it is another agency, I cannot dictate which LAZ version tomake available.
So one of our GIS savvy users is able to take the LAZ, and eventually get a terrain model via Descartes and an STM. However, it is apparently not a Civil Terrain Model in that it has no Feature Properties. How can I assign Feature Properties to a MicroStation Terrain Model?
Hi Caddcop,
If you have access to OpenRoads Designer you might try to export the terrain to XML and then import back which should give you option to specify the feature definition at import or afterwards?

Our workspace for ORD is not really ready for usage by our staff, so we are looking for workflows that stay within SELECTseries products.

Hi,
If the LAZ/LAS file can be opened with your Descartes version, then you may use the the .pod point cloud created when imported in Descartes.
Just reference this POD and create a TM from it with "Create from point cloud" tool in you civil product.

We have to use Descartes to clip out unneeded areas as the LAZ/LAS file is for an entire county which is too much data for Ss4./10 unless we remove areas not needed. Can this occur in a POD file?
Yes in fact the process would be:
Alternatively, you may try free Benley PODCreator to convert your LAS/LAZ in a POD file.To be sure the LAS/LAZ file will be converted, you might need to specify LAZ version (BTW I assumed the Descartes version your GIS guys use is more recent than you IR so it explains why the LAZ file is compatible with this Descartes and not with your IR), it would be good to know the exact version numbers.
