The recommended way is to use existing line style as a template and to create a new line style (or a new version of the existing line style). It ensures existing files will be not affected by modifying of the existing definitions.

In MicroStation (and all other product based on PowerPlatform engine), the situation with line styles is weird a bit: Whereas everything is now based on dgnlib files, Line Style Editor supports old rsc format only.

So you have to do:

To open dgnlib where the line style is stored.
Using Line Style Editor, to export line styles to new rsc file.
To open this rsc file and to create the new one (or to modify existing, to rename it or whatever else).
To import the new style to dgnlib. Fortunately it's possible to import selected only style to dnglib.
