How to stop annotation text from updating?

I am using OpenRoads Designer Connect edition and am attempting to create some plan-profile sheets. I used the named boundary tool to create plan and profile drawing models and then utilized "model annotation" to annotate the alignment and profile, however I then need to drag some labels around to remove conflict as well as edit some of the labels to remove part of the label that the client does not want on the sheets. It seems pretty random but the annotations will reset to the original position and contain all of the original information (undo my deletions).  How can I stop this from happening?

I have tried setting the update fields automatically to false, however this caused my stationing on the alignment to start at 0+00, instead of the 50+00 that it is set to, and did not always keep it from happening.

I also tried dropping the cells several times so as to loose the smart features they contain, however several of the multi line annotations break down into unusable pieces.

Please help as this is incredibly frustrating.

  • I am having the same problem.  I have a large project will 50 profile sheets and counting.

    This is a BIG DEAL.

I have vertical curve text that needs to be moved and I have a text on top of text in some areas.  The way I am reading the posts.  With no way to move or remove text I have to manually go through 50 sheets and type in all the vertical data.   Then when things change I have to do it again. Plus, now I have to consider typos may occur in manually editing the alignments.

I am at a loss of words right know.  The only thing I am thinking is "Why am I using this beta version of software to do plan production on a multi million dollar project?"

Why has this not been fixed by now?   In my opinion this is an unacceptable problem,  this is going to cause folks a tremendous amount of time and money.

  • Hello Zane!

I thought I had a work around, but that's not working either. What I've resulted to is copying and pasting the curve annotation to a different level, and then shutting off the levels that keep re-annotating.

I agree, this is a huge issue!

  • Sorry man,  that sounds like a lot of work.

I have been staring at my screen with a dazed look.   What can I do?  I have another 30 or so profile sheets to cut .  I may have a total of 80 profile sheets I can't edit, move or delete the text in.  OMG

I am going to start testing some things, I will let you know if find out anything.

  • I still have yet to find a good work around, if you find there is something that you find you are moving every time exactly the same way I recommend going into the workspace dgnlib file and adjusting the annotation there.  Otherwise it has been an extreme battle with the annotation, where understandably the PM doesn't understand why simple repeated edits are breaking my spirit.  I think one of the worst parts is every time I think I have a solution I find that it may work for an hour or two and then the annotation sporadically resets itself.  Please do keep us updated, I just scrolled up and there are 120 people following this thread hoping you solve this.

Not sure how we elevate this to get an official response from bentley.

  • Are your drawing models in one file or in each sheet file?

  • It seems if the profile drawing models are in the same file as the profile named boundaries the annotations don't seem to auto update.

I am currently creating sheets and drawing models in separate files. Wondering if this is my problem.

    Does anyone else notice this?

  • I hope it works for you!  I have my named boundaries, models, and sheets in the same file and find that it works okay, but the problem most often occurs after I have closed the file and then reopen it.

  • Ok,  Well I thought I had something.  I created named boundaries and drawing models in the same file.  Made some text edits then open and closed the file I few times.  Seemed to work.

I wonder if having the sheet models in the file messes with things.  Could you save your file out and delete the sheets.  Then create a new sheet file and reference one of the drawing models into the sheet file.  See if sheet models are causing the update.

I also create the named boundaries and profile drawing models in the alignment dgn. Then I deleted the sheet models. Finally I referenced the drawing model into a new sheet.  Seemed to not update automatically.

  • I have been creating named boundaries, drawings, and sheets in one file, referencing the corridor and alignment. My issue is I can't find any reason why this works and sometimes it doesn't. I've created about 60 plan and profile sheets, with many different alignments. It seemed to work fine for about the first 40 or so, then things went downhill. Maybe there is a correlation with going back to the alignment file, but not always.

  • I am creating sheets in separate files.  Our client prefers this route. I was thinking of creating the profile drawing models in a container file then deleting the sheets the named boundary tool creates.  Then manually create sheets referencing the drawing models into them.  I would like to try this for plan and profile sheets.  Maybe the profiles will not auto annotate.  I have about had it with the automated plan production in ORD. I am finding a lot of problems with drawing models as I go along.  For example if you create sheets in separate files you cant save as anymore.  So a person has to create 50 plan sheets, 50 signing sheets, 50 drainage sheets, 50 utilities sheets.  The problem is all these share common annotation, notes, labels.  The standard workflow for the last 30 years has been to create plan sheets , create all annotation, labels, property owner names, etc.  then save this file as signing, drainage, lighting, utilities etc...  That is out the window using ORD in Projectwise,  If you copy files , even with the container file included the drawing model links cause ORD to crash when opening the new files.  Now someone needs to walk though every sheet and reference in the plan sheet and copy in annotation.  Just more $
