Parametric - user reported buffering/slow

ORD Version: OpenRoadsDesignerx64_10.08.00.088

ProjectWise Version:  10.00.03.280

OS: Windows 10

Issue: User reports when using parametric design, adding or deleting lines leads to slow or "buffered" response time.  Any troubleshooting tips or known fixes?

  • I’ve seen this and with help of my colleagues in Aus. We came up with a fix. See below:

If when using OpenRoads Designer to undertake the most simple of task, say drawing a line or attaching a references, some times you will get a blue loading circle, known by Bentley as the "Donut of Death". This normally goes away after either a few seconds or sometimes a minute.

    Steps to fix below:

To improve OpenRoads Performance, please undertake the following steps:

    1. In Windows Start Menu - Search for "Bentley Licencing Tools"

    2. When this app opens, go to "tools" and select "Send Logs Now"

What this does is re-syncs your logs for licencing with Bentley, if you have poor internet connections etc, the “donut of death” is looking for validation from the Licence Server and this is causing the software to lock up and re-syncing the licence improves this.

    3. Next Step is to remove some Temp Files that have been left on your PC by previous versions of the software

Cleaning up old preference files from previous installations:

If you had previously installed an older version of OpenRoads Designer, the old preference and temporary files may conflict with new settings and capabilities in the currently installed version. It is a good practice to delete old preferences and temp files by deleting these folders:

    C:\Users\Your Windows Login Name\AppData\Local\Bentley\OpenRoadsDesigner

    C:\Users\Your Windows Login Name\AppData\Local\Temp\Bentley\OpenRoadsDesigner

When the software is next started the folders will be recreated using current product settings
