imported survey points don't display like in SS2 & SS4

I am trying to import survey points and have them show as they used to in SS2.

when using the text import wizard on ORD I get the points displayed as "Decorations":

what I need is for the point to show up like in SS2 and SS4 when they come in as actual point example:

as of right now we are processing the points on SS2 and then switching to ORD but we would like to use only one software if possible

any help would be appreciate it.

Thanks

  • Have you set up your point features to display the same as your SS2/SS4? ORD requires quite a bit of setup, and if that isn't right, things will not show the way you might expect.

  • No, could you elaborate a on how this is done?

  • The decorators are a screen display - I do not believe they are written to the file nor do they plot. There are settings in the User Preferences - View Options - Civil

To create labels that can be plotted, you need to use annotation tools. There are videos on setting up survey annotations - they are not trivial steps that could be covered in a post. There is also a VBA option, but this slows down processing significantly. This was the only option in Ss4.

  • Thanks, That is what I am doing right now but setting the right annotation group under feature symbology is a bear of a task when you have about 200 different codes, I have spent almost a day trying to get all my points to the right annotation group and it just seems extremely ineffective. I will continue to learn more because maybe (most likely) I am doing something wrong. I just don't understand why they would change that feature. I don't know how we had it set up in SS4 but it would annotate the incoming point like that too right after using the text import wizard.

  • I absolutely HATE ORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
