I'm trying to slightly modify the rim elevation of a catch basin I placed by "Place Node" and referencing a proposed terrain model. Is there any way to do this? I presume it has something to do with being "ruled" to the terrain model... thanks!
Hello Benjamin,as Vincent said, it's generally better to keep the inlet ruled to the terrain model. However, I agree that there are times when you want the rim elevation to be higher or lower than the terrain. If you know when placing the inlet that you want it to be a certain distance above or below the terrain, then you can specify a vertical offset. This maintains the rule to the surface. If you want to remove the rule to the terrain in order to specify the ground elevation manually, here is the procedure:
Using the Element Selection tool, select the inlet and select the Move manipulator handle and then follow the prompts to change the elevation reference (use ALT key) then remove elevation reference (use CTL key). Then reset to cancel the graphical move edit. You will now need to specify a ground elevation. You can then also specify whether or not to make the rim elevation equal to that ground elevation.
Note that once the rule is removed, neither the ground elevation nor the rim elevation will update if the terrain model is revised, OR if you move the inlet. Once you remove the rule, it's now up to you to ensure the ground/rim elevations are correct. Also note that you can restore the terrain model reference as follows:
Go to the Properties dialog, under the Utility heading, and select the ellipsis next to the Elevation Reference field to pick the terrain again.
