I recently started with ORD. I trimmed two lines using microstation trim to intersection tool. Even though they look like they are trimmed whenever I select the trimmed line it gets highlighted and the parent line is still showing to it's full extent (not highlighted). When I right click after selecting the trimmed lines it is selecting the parent line.
What is the purpose of this? Why do we need the original element even after it's trimmed? Doesn't it make things confusing?
I am also able to select the already trimmed parent element even when I hover over it's old location. Do not understand what could be the need for it.
This allows a line or arc representing an edge of road, to be trimmed for a sideroad / intersection and its edges of road. You can even use "fillets" between these and on both sides of the sideroad, that edge of road still exist and display. The software knows they are still part of a single edge of road. And it an offset from the centerline was used to define it, and you go back and change the offset value, everything will update to reflect the new offset.
