Back in my day...
Geopak had the ability, when running cross sections, to Step through the criteria as they processed. This was very, very helpful when trying to debug a section that just didn't want to draw correctly.
I think it would be helpful if there were a way to isolate a section and "step" through the template as it processes, so that we can see the order in which things process and draw. I know that we have the ability to "Test" templates through the template library, but sometimes it might be more useful to see how it is testing and solving with our actual design.
I have no idea how to implement something like this, but I have seen a few cases already where things seemed to be defined correctly when tested in the template, but didn't work as expected with actual design elements. It's absolutely operator error, but those can be difficult to track down when it's hard to specify "where" things got off track.
That is an amazing idea!
Agree - one thing that really is missing in ORD is user feedback about what it's actually doing behind the scenes for the user to track what's actually changing in a model and this links back to that.
One thing I've mentioned to Bentley is the inclusion of a user readable process log file or something like that, that would record what it's doing, e.g.. detected change in referenced Alignment abc, updating corridor xyz due to change in Point Control 123, etc.
Maybe something like this for corridor processing that the user can optionally enable? One day

Agreed. It can be very difficult to audit models without this "step debug" process.

This is a great idea. Right now the best thing that my team does is have a DGN file that is level controlled showing the various solution sets within a template. Having the step through function would make troubleshooting 100x better.
