Copying Drainage Networks from one basemap to another

OpenRoads Designer CONNECT Edition, 2020 Release 2

I want to combine various culverts and storm sewer networks that originate from 12 separate .DGN files into a single basemap. Is it possible to reference in a DGN file and copy the referenced networks into the file? I've tried to select the referenced culvert and use the "Copy" tool from the Drawing tab, but I get an error message at the bottom of "No elements selected". Is there another way or is this impossible?

Thanks!

  • I have never done this, but here is a possible solution.

On the Home tab, Model Import/Export group, use the 'Export Utilities > Export OpenFlows Submodel' from each of the 12 DGNs.

In the new base DGN, use the 'Import OpenFlows Submodel' to bring in the data.

    Some further information.
You can only import an OpenFlows model into an empty dgn which does not already have a utility project. That's critical. it's error trapped.
The difference between importing an OpenFlows model, and a submodel, is that importing an OpenFlows model will copy across prototypes, catalogs, everything.
Importing an OpenFlows submodel will only import the actual data - pipes, nodes, etc.
One potential issue with 'Import OpenFlows Model' is that it will not read your dgnlib and copy in the settings from there - it will get them from the model that you import, and the two sources could be different.
