Extracting graphics from 2ft contour lines

I have 2ft contour lines from a DWG file that I brought into microstation (V8 2004/Geopak Roads). When I use extract graphics (contours), in some areas the TIN doesn't follow the contours very well. Is there something that I could do to make this look cleaner? For example: the purple circle is a high spot, and it connects to the adjacent contours of the same elevation. The green and blue circles just cut corners. I have little experience working with TINs and maybe I am trying to accomplish something that can't be done.

Thanks.

  • You could certainly try it. I know that would give you a lot of points, but the added Breaklines might help "direct" the surface a little more.

2004 is a pretty old version. I don't know how many options you have for editing or filtering. I believe that, in the DTM tools, there is a tool for "Filter Vertices". This will allow you to set a tolerance, and any points within the tolerance will get "filtered" to just one point. You do that with the DAT file you create when extracting the data. Then you use the filtered DAT file to create your TIN.
