Hi!
I have the topo details & proposed Centerline in an AutoCAD file. I have attached this CAD file as reference & prepared the terrain model. To proceed with horizontal alignment design is there a way to convert the proposed centerline( already available in CAD whihc i have referenced for preparing terrain model) into alignment, in open roads or do I have to recreate the CL separately?

Copy the ACAD centreline into a 2D model in ORD, and use 'Create Civil Rule Feature' to generate the ORD geometry.
(If it is a centreline created by Civil3D, it would probably be better to export to LandXML or ifcAlignment from C3D, and then import.)

Thanks for the suggestion. In a new 2D model the alignment line is taken up as read-only. Could you suggest how do I unlock this & proceed?

Is the alignment from CAD a 3D Polyline if so use Plan by 3D element

Copy it from the reference file to the working file would be my simple solution.
Try right clicking the reference file > Merge to Master

Mark - in this case I would use 'Copy' as I would not want all the topo details being merged into the working file.
Thanks for the suggestion. I tried this option, it worked & the PCL is now a Master string alignment. However the alignment that was generated did not show any curves in HIP report. This option converts a 3D polyline into an alignment string in ORD but does not bring in all the geometric parameters(the report shows zero radius for all the curves) attached with the polyline. Could you please let me know why this is happening & how can I use this option to get the geometric features as well?
You cannot convert a 3D polyline into an alignment - it is geometrically impossible. You have converted the 3D polyline into a 3D feature. You can only convert 2D data to a geometrically correct alignment.
Noted. Thanks for all the support. So I understand if I have an alignment in AutoCAD, there are only 3 ways of converting that into an alignment in ORD;
1. Import that alignment in .xml format
2. use the civil rule feature
3. use the CAD line as reference & create a Best Fit
