[ORD] Vertical Curve Parameter

Hi,

On profiles we use parabolas and Radius here. It seems in R3 the settings went wrong. If I select Kvalue, I have to type in R/100 in Profile View to apply required radius. The worse is to select Rvalue in settings panel, because in this case I have to input 10000/R (Mvalue?). Am I wrong or is it an issue? (Anyway the annotations on drawings are correct)

Setting Rvalue the Vertical Curve Parameter is 4.000 instead of 2500:

Thanks

  • Zsolt - in the settings, the Rvalue is not the Radius. When specifying a circular vertical arc, you can give a radius but for parabolas, you give the Rvalue or Kvalue.

Rvalue = rate of change of gradient = 100 / Kvalue (this was what was the 'M' value in MX)

Up to version 10.9, there was a 'lucky' defect that meant that the Rvalue was written as 100 * K (which gave us the 'equivalent' Radius') - but this was not correct. The Rvalue in the settings IS NOT the Radius - it is the rate of change. [I always thought it was Radius - my mistake.]

When defining a parabola, you can give the Rvalue or the Kvalue, but not the Radius (directly). Rvalue = 10000 / 'Equivalent vertical radius' as you showed in your example.

In MX, there was the option to give the 'equivalent radius' directly, and due to the 'lucky' defect in ORD up to v10.8, you could do the same. However, this is now not the case, as Rvalue was never meant to be the radius value, and this has been fixed.

    I hope that makes sense.

  • Hello, I am glad for this discussion here. We found it too. The "lucky" mistake K*100 stayed in Annotation Group still (fortunately) as "Parabola Radius" parameter, because that is correct annotation by some standards. This annotation variable was add to InRoads more years ago to satisfy many and many requirements.

I think "Parabola Radius" would be the good option for defining of parabolas curves for designers (beside "rValue" and "kValue") .

The problem is now we are not able to annotate "parabola Radius" in Vertical Change in Plane. This parameter is missing here.
