Trying to use the "Create Terrain Model from Design Meshes" tool.
Works great. But it creates a terrain from all the components in and referenced in the dgn. There seems to be no way to turn off a component from being included in the terrain. Level displays (view display, global display and global freeze) don't work , clipping a reference or turning off a reference don't work. I just want to exclude one or two components. For example a wall or barrier component with a vertical face. Or a temporary component I made for targeting or quanitites.
Please advise. The tools seems like a easy way to create a terrain, just need some type of controls so it doesn't select every component mesh referenced into the dgn.
Corridor
Terrain created with this tool. North corridor is referenced to dgn, but the display is off.
Assuming you're trying to generate a top proposed surface, give the desired points of your templates an "Alternate Surface" in each of those template point properties dialogs that span along that top edge. Use the "Create Corridor Alternate Surfaces" to extract. That will stitch together any points using the same name given in that Point Properties Alternate Surface field.

Mark,
Great reply. You nailed it. The tool could be great!! if we could just filter the elements we want to add to a finish grade terrain. I have tested it a few times and if all the components I want are showing , seems like it would be the solution. But this is the same old thing like a lot of Bentley's tools , never completely finished. I would post this on the ideas forum but I see that is gone. In the meantime I guess I will try and figure out some workaround, again. :-)

Glad I found this thread. I've been trying to create a design terrain model for a complicated design consisting of a number of roundabouts using both linear and surface templates at regular intervals along the main corridor. The command appears to run through the process but then hangs. Says it is still processing but nothing happens. Zane's comment "Alternate surfaces don't work with surface templates" may be the reason why. Wasted too much time already trying to get this to work. I'm going back to the graphical filter method.
cheers,
Mick
