When attempting to replace the reference for Arc from Element and Line from Element horizontal geometry, I almost always receive the "Element off design plane" error message followed by a complete program crash. This issue results in a considerable amount of wasted effort so I'm hoping to determine what causes this and how it can be avoided. Any tips/best practices would be much appreciated
I don't get error in 2020 R3 but it could be data specific. Anyway, I am not sure Replace Reference has been imagined for this kind of workflow. Much more for offset. However it is there and enabled so should work.
Are you working in a 3D file? I ask as the message mentions 'design plane'.
Yes, I frequently use Replace Reference for Fillet and Offset elements and rarely encounter problems. I attached the file and included callouts to provide a clearer picture of the issue. All elements are in a 2D model and I figure it's worth mentioning that I've experienced this exact same problem for years on different projects so I don't believe it's specific to this file (it's either something I'm doing wrong or a software glitch). Thank you both for your help

If you have experienced this for years, and the issue "results in a considerable amount of wasted effort" - have you logged any service requests for this InRoads functionality? I am presuming it is native InRoads functionality you are using, and not the OpenRoads tech tools.
By "for years", I'm referring to the past 3-4 years. I admittedly and regrettably should've sought answers sooner, but that's beside the point. Were you able to look at the dgn I provided? All elements should've been created using the following tools which I believe fall under the OpenRoads umbrella, not the native InRoads one. Thanks
