With Adobe Flash Player Deprecation, How will Users View Learn Server Videos?

I cross posted this on the Learn Server Forum. Not a lot of activity over there.

Adobe announced that the Flash Player was being retired/deprecated and recommends its removal. Once that has been done, the Learn Server Videos cannot be played. How will this be addressed?

  • Prita –

    Thanks for your follow-up/response!

We were not experiencing any issues with any particular video… I was just concerned about Adobe Flash going away
Apparently, our company has already removed Adobe Flash from all computers – and the Bentley LEARN videos are still working

Once you are able to navigate to the videos, they seem to play OK
Our challenge is navigating to different videos in Bentley LEARN
Our users report it can take over 5 minutes to navigate to a single Bentley LEARN video – just to watch a 2 minute video 😊

We were having users review the OpenRoads Designer training videos – and most users simply give up (including me) due to the “clunky-ness” of navigating to each video

Most users report giving up on the Bentley videos – and start searching Google and accessing YouTube videos

Do get me wrong – we feel the “content” of the videos is strong/well-presented and concise
It is just the difficulty of navigating to each video that is the problem

    Thanks!

    Regards -

  • Hi David,

    We appreciate your honest feedback.

We understand that it is difficult to navigate through the courses, we are actively working on making changes which will reduce the lag time and improve the overall experience.

Will reach out for your detailed feedback after the enhancements are in place.

  • Prita,

Our experience trying to even begin training on OpenRoads has been exactly as David describes above.  The Learn Server is so painfully slow to populate/display content that we have basically given up on it. Please pass these comments along to the managerial staff level that can actually change resource allocation.

Until they are resolved, the only goals for every Software Sprint across the entire Bentley software organization should be simply:

    1. To publish and host a stable, efficient LEARN server interface, including a searchable content function for Users, with real world load and response times measured in seconds, not in minutes

    2. To publish an overhaul of the Connect Advisor that has a fully functional video player, and either restores the ability to download Example datasets, or links directly to that specific content location on the LEARN server to initiate that download

That's it - please do not work on anything else until those two items are done. Thanks for your time and good luck with the challenge.

  • For accessing Bentley OpenRoads Designer training videos, please visit the Tennessee DOT website:

    https://www.tn.gov/tdot/roadway-design/tdot-cadd-support/tdot-openroads-designer/ord-tutorial-videos.html

They figured something out that makes it much easier and faster to access the training videos.....

  • Hello,

Could you please drop me an email at prita.bhattacharya@bentley.com - I'd like to have a call with you to review these learning paths that you are having trouble with.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Prita, it is not a specific learning path. It is a general issue with the poor speed/lag time in loading any of them, then scrolling through the titles manually looking for a certain key word or command.  For instance, I am new to Named Boundaries and Plan Sheet models. There is a lot of useful material on LEARN for new users like myself, but I do not see anywhere to enter a search term so I can quickly find it.   Alternately, if I use Connect Advisor which has a search function, the results are not what I expect, since none of the top returned suggestions for 'Place Named Boundary' would take me to the LEARN material about Drawing Production or Named Boundaries. Just frustrating for a new user that I can find it more quickly on Google and the TDOT website, than on either LEARN or Connect Advisor which are Bentley's own sites.
