I've been learning the alignment (horizontal and vertical) and geometry tools, creating useful relationships to enable easy changes later.
The only thing I'm unsure about is the approach to making major changes to alignments and geometry.
I know you can make some changes with the existing elements and there is the insert vertex tool but if I need to add in or replace elements in the middle of an alignment to make major changes how should this be done?
I could drop the complex element using the Microstation tool and then make the changes but then I break all the geometric relationships based on this alignment e.g. channel geometry. There is a similar issue with general geometry too as I assume there isn't a way to re-establish relationships for geometry after it's created e.g. need to replace the alignment which breaks the offset to the channels, replace the channel geometry and the relationship to other geometry is broken too etc.
As an addition, is it possible to physically move a whole alignment along with the associated elements together e.g. moving a whole pond from one place to another.

Ken.
I have had luck with the "geometry builder edit" lately. Is a little confusing at first. But I was able to edit 4 interchange ramp alignments which involved removing curves and moving the begin location. If you pre-draw the lines and curves in Microstation and have something to snap to the tool works pretty well. I was impressed, it didnt seem to blow up my profiles.

That sounds useful. I assume you are using MicroStation lines as construction lines which you delete once finished? In your case was it not possible to draw the replacement sections using ORD geometry and connect that up instead?
Yes, I draw construction lines for the geometry. I use to do this with SS2 and run the horizontal and vertical by PI. I am going to try and convert a curve to a compound curve today . Well let you know if it works. This would be impossible with the geometry tools without recreating the complex element and I don't want to do that because I already have sheets and profiles made.
Using "Geometry Builder Editor" I was able to insert a curve on an alignment without blowing it up. I inserted a curve creating a compound curve on an alignment. By drawing the proposed graphics ahead of time in Microstation editing the alignment is possible by snapping to the new graphics. This command allows stations and profiles to hold.
