This would be a nice feature since local DMS#### folders don't make any sense with ProjectWise folder paths. Working from multiple project folders is difficult. I am surprised Bentley has let this happen for so long. Working in ProjectWise is a big headache when trying to manage files from two different systems. Who came up with this system?
I've managed to get by using ProjectWise for just over a year now, but forget it if you need to reference files from multiple projects. Then trying to keep track of what is from where.
I would like to not display PW_WORKDIR:dms............. (just file name)
To my knowledge the iDesktop integration is not customizable. The part before the colon is the tag and is the same for all ProjectWise referenced files. The part after the tag is a unique identifier in ProjectWise. the dms58396 is the folder (project) code the file resides in, and the actual filename is after the slash. You can use the Search Builder to look for a folder with a folder id equal to the number after dms or d0. When the numbers get larger you will see d0 instead of dms as a prefix. So for this file you would search for a folderId of 58396 and a file name of .dgn to find this file in ProjectWise.
You can also find out what file is referenced by right clicking the file in ProjectWise and choosing Set > Show References, then right click the reference and choose Open Folder. This will jump to the folder that the refence file is located in.
PW always uses the folder DMS name, so if you are expecting to see a "normal" windows folder name, that will not be possible for the moment.

Avdhoot Kirpekar Thank you for the reply. I understand what you mentioned. However, it would be nice to be able to see the folder structure from ProjectWise within the reference file list. I know there are some bright programmers out there, it's not impossible!
There is a dedicated ProjectWise discussion board. Perhaps someone there has come across some type of solution.
