My group is new to ORD and we're developing plan and profile sheets with annotation for the pipes and structures. I've developed labels with fields that read data from pipes and structures like the diameter and length, these appear to require the fields be reassigned when ever the pipe is adjusted and the length changes.
My experience in civil3D is that labels are dynamic and whenever the pipe invert or length changes the label will update itself. Is there a way to have Openroads automatically reassign the label field and update itself rather than needing to manually update the label field?
Yes, you need to create a text favorite that uses the drainage information. Create a Drainage database in a file and place a couple of structures and conduits. In the text editor select the f(x) button on the top ribbon. You want element properties and then select either the node or the conduit. It will give you a properties dialogue that lists all the available physical and hydraulic information.
Then select all, right click, and select save text favorite.
FYI, for some reason you can not edit the settings of these text favorites after you create them so make sure you get them how you want them to appear before you create the text favorite.
Hope this helps.
Hi Daniel,
I have found annotation to be the quirkiest aspect of ORD. From your post, it sounds like you correctly created text favorites that are reading the properties of the element, but then later they don't seem to work, correct? In my experience, when this happens the annotation labels just show the static text, with blanks where the property data should be. For whatever reason, the annotation has lost its link to the database. My work-around is simply to close the file and re-open it. That seems to re-establish the connection between the annotation and the database. It (almost) always works.
Best regards,--Karl

I'm having an issue where Text Favorites that I've created work and update when the design info changes (Rim/Invert), but NOT when the Feature Name changes... It's driving me nuts! Opening and closing the file doesnt do anything... but if I delete and recreate the label, the proper name is shown.
Do you have any experience there?
Hi Eric,
my experience with Feature Name is the same as yours.
Thanks Karl! I've resorted to trying to establish all of my labels with the one-click annotate feature... that way I can just clear them out as need be :/
There should just be some sort of "refresh" button or something....
