Trouble placing Pond Profile in Separate View

Hello,

I am working through the "Designing a Pond" lesson within the Intermediate Drainage Learning Path. Because I receive the "Civil Data Found that is from a newer version of a Civil Product" error when opening the provided file from the lesson, I created a new file and attached the pond as a reference. I am using OpenRoads designer CONNECT Edition V8.

The first part of the lesson guides the user through opening the pond profile. The steps from the tutorial are shown below.

I am able to execute these steps but when I do, nothing shows up in the profile view. All I get is a blank screen. When I click the "fit view" button, it tells me "No Elements Found". But, when I then try the process again, with the profile window still open, it appears to show vertical lines that correlate with different positions along the pond berm. In the image below, you can see the crosshairs shown on the right-hand side of the pond berm and a corresponding vertical red line in the profile view. As I move my cursor left to right in the profile view, moving the vertical line as I go, the crosshairs move along the top of the berm seemingly indicating the corresponding postiion on the pond. It's almost as if the profile is there but not being shown.

I'm not sure if there is something I'm doing wrong or if creating the new file is the root of this issue but I would apprecaited and advice on what may be going wrong.

Thanks

  • Hi Andrew,

Are you still having this issue?

If you are, then are you having this issue after upgrading it to the current version of the product you are using?

Another option could be to have you merge the reference to master first, then try the steps.

  • As this was just a training exercise I have left it behind and haven't looked at it since this post. So, technically, yes I'm still having this issue (I had this issue on several of the training files provided by Bentley). Unfortunately, I am unable to upgrade my version of the software as it is managed by my company's IT team.

I tried to perform a merger of sorts with these files, maybe something like the merger you speak of, but then the files lose some of their data in the process and leave me with other problems in their wake. From what I understand this issue with version compatibilty is quite common and hopefully wouldn't be anything I'd experience on my professional projects as the files should all be in the same version. It's just unfortuntate that this issue prevents us from being able to do any of the practice exercises provided by Bentley.

    Thanks for reaching out.

  • Ja'Shon - Why would you want to merge the reference into the master?  Doing so, you will lose all the smart geometric linkage which is what OpenRoads Technology is all about.  Can you please clarify this?
