When importing survey data my point codes and linear features are not being recognized. Until...

Im working with the CDOT workspace for Openroads CONNECT edition and I am importing the survey field data. When i do all the line work comes in on the default level. Where can i find the field codes in Openroads to find out why it is not recognizing my field codes? I am using a PNEZCD Point Northing Easting Elevation Code Description TIW and i am importing a .csv. CDOT uses a field code system with a 4 digit number for each code. For example top of curb is 3506. then after the period we use the line number to identify lines and then we use the standard ORD linking codes for start curve etc. All the linking codes are working, the line work is being drawn, the points are being found, but all the line work is going onto the default layer. Under the line properties it says feature definition not found. Then under explorer/openroads standards/ feature definitons/ survey. I added a new feature definition called Linear and under symbology/linear feature symbology i selected a random linear feature symbology and redrew my linework and it worked..... i have no idea what is going on here. Can anyone explain why ORD could not find the feature definitions until i added an empty feature definition and then selected a arbitrary linear feature symbology?

  • Hi Alexander,

I can help you with this. After you import your raw data you need to strip off the .1's and .2's from your survey fieldbook. You need to do this for all points and all linear features.

Let me know if you need any more help.

  • Thanks Bob that works great! This is a Openroads defect. Just to reiterate for clarity.

    1. I import my survey file as normal. (create new field book, right click import, select survey file)

    2. All of the line work comes in on the default level.

    3. In Explorer under the survey drop down, expand the Field Book and select All Point Features, right click and select Details

    4. Right click at the top of the Field Code Column and select Replace

5.In the Find and replace window in the "Find what:" field, type .??  leaving the replace with field blank and click replace all. depending on how many significant figures are in your connect codes you will need to either use more or less question marks. The goal here is to remove the connect codes from all field codes AFTER import into ORD.

    6. Then right click ALL Linear Features and do the same process, removing all connect codes from linear features.

    7. Once this is complete, in the main ribbon click the Analyze tab and the redraw tool.

Now all linework should be on the correct level and symbology. This is the correct workflow for ORD survey import.
