I am attempting to use the Complex By Elements tool to create vertical geometry. When I try to select my first element, I get the error message, "Element not valid for tool". I am in what appears to be a 2D view. I cannot use plan by 3D element on the line.

Could it be that you're using the horizontal geometry tool "Complex by Elements" instead of the vertical "Profile Complex by Elements"?
