I'm trying to place a civil cell on a T-junction but am getting the "element not valid for tool" error. The first reference line is the minor road CL, and the second is the major road EOP line. This second line is in the 2D model with no profile attached, but I still can't select it:
The original EOP line was 3D and imported from an MX model, but I created a 2D line using the Plan by 3D Element option. I've tried using this option to create a 2D version of my first reference but I can't select this at all when placing the cell.
Hi Greg,
That Plan by 3D Element tool creates 2D geometry with Profiles that are not seen by other tools. Try using the "Simplify Geometry" tool to Simplify the Horizontal Geometry and then Simplify the Profile and make it active.
This will sever the Geometrys link to the original 3d element so it is completely independent, but get it "seen" as Geometry with a Profile.

Mark

Hi Mark,
Thanks for replying. Are you talking about simplifying the geometry of my minor road CL or the major road EOP? If the former I don't seem to be able to get this to work (this was also imported from MX), and if the latter then this is a channel line imported from MX so there's no horizontal or vertical geometry to simplify.
Greg
Hi Greg, in the ORD world all 2D elements have geometry - even if segmented straights.
I don't have the option to simplify the geometry for the EOP:
I should note that the reference in the popup is the drawing currently in use.
Are you working in your 2d or 3d model? Try turning off your 3d reference if youre in the 2d model to make sure youre selecting 2d geometry and see if that helps.
Apparently I was working in the 3D model. If I work only in the 2D model then I only have my geometry (GCxx) strings imported from MX to work with:
My channel line (CRxx) only imports into the 3D model.
Thats right, MX 3d strings (including M-strings) will import into the 3d model and Geometry (G-strings) will import into 2d.
Use the Plan by 3D Element tool to get 2d geometry from the 3d channel line and Simplify if it doesnt detect the 3d (if you need 3D).
OK, we're getting somewhere now, but something odd is happening when the cell is placed. Do I need to set an end condition in my civil cell to stop it doing this?
Hmm looks like you triangulated the through road offset lines connecting to your fillets aswell in your Civil Cell. You can probably remove those features from your terrain here or remove the Civil Cell, update it and re-place it.
Would I not need to use that as a reference in my cell for creating the terrain boundary? If I just use the channels on the side road I get this:
