In bentley V8i based prodcuts the Datagroup explorer allows you to export data vales to excel and then imprt them back in.What options do we have for exporting openroads data but the key part is then importing it back in.Ive used microstation connect to export the item data but there is no import options
Are your sure - Item Type Definitions and Instances Export and Import (bentley.com)
This is also included in OpenRoads Designer and all other Microstation CE platform products.

Thanks Mark, really appreciated. This worked for Highways elements but not for Drainage feature definitions.
Bentley provided the following article detailing a configuration file variable which unlocks the feature.

Will update once i get the chance to test
Drainage elements data can be exported using Item Types but you have to use Expressions to read the SUDA data. However, there is a "simpler" way. Use FlexTables to display the information then export or the Export bottom on Drainage and Utilities home includes Export to Excel. There is also Model Builder for importing and exporting data for Suda. It syncs the data in Suda with a series of data formats.
I personally prefer Item Types as the data fields can be customised and you can have a variety of Automated and manually populated fields.

thanks Chris, the data is taken from Microdrainage, the model builder is used to generate the 3D elements which are Feature definitions defined by Node. The discipline does use flextable to manage the data handily but the issue from my side is that the flex tables allow export but there is no import ability i could see.
Using the Data externally allows us to pick up the Element ID and the GUID for each "asset" which we are using to form a manual input into the asset management system. The asset system then generates an asset specific UAID which we want to enter into the already existing custom datafield present with the schema just seems strange to be able to export from a flextable but have no import ability.
Are you wanting to add additional data or change the data in the flextables?
change the values of an non-geometric existing data field from the generic value to a code generated by a different system. Each "asset" will have a unique code so for big models it could be 300+ unique codes to input. With Aecosim SS6 and the excel connection its a process that takes 5 mins to re-import
If the data is SUDA Data, then model builder has 2 way syncIf Not then i would use Item Types and Import/Export, or Asset Manager this allows you to add expression to extract data from the model - Element ID, Feature Name etc and add placeholder fields which when you export to excel are columns to be filled in and then when you import get added to the objects
