As regards your question "If you had an element template that also included the cell and the dimstyle, could this be boiled down to setting the active template and keying in the Placelabel Tool Open command?", yes, you could do such, of course, and yes, I am using a simple custom menu (dropdown) to access the script. The issue with setting all via a template is the very real possibility that there would many similar templates with the only difference being a particular script. I find it "cleaner" to leave the element templates simple and access customizations via dropdowns (for drafting). Just me?

Sorry if I am hijackings your thread, but this is some follow-up questions to Mark Plums' reply:

If you had an element template that also included the cell and the dimstyle, could this be boiled down to setting the active template and keying in the Placelabel Tool Open command?

And are these accessed within your ribbon via a customization or some other GUI item?

Glad to help. Yeah, I have created custom dropdowns- for our firm- for all of these sorts of manual labeling procedures. A bit antiquated, but I am an antique of sorts, LOL. Thanks for putting in a ticket!

Hi Mark,

nice - so use element templates to set the cell and run the the tool. That should do what I need (ill put a ticket in for the the placelabel dialog function)

I am using 2020R3.

I believe that what you are attempting to do is what I have contained in the following script (which I have set up as a custom menu set for Rights-of-Way labeling). This one places a Station/ Offset label for Rights-of-Way located on the left side of an alignment:

"Template Active Annotation\Sheets\Plan\Right-of-Way\Prop. ROW\Offset Plus and Distance; ac=_Lbl_PR_Pln_Sta_Partial_Lt; Active Style= 0; dimstyle active= _Lbl_Pln_Sta_Partial; Placelabel Tool Open"

It prompts me to select the alignment, and then allows me to place the label with the correct station and offset based upon that alignment.
