I am struggling with finding any information on being able to select one or multiple contour's from a Openroads Terrain (tried both 2D and 3D) Model to create a new terrain or a boundary based on the contours from within a ORD terrain.
It was noted in a forum post that this could be accomplished by executing the Terrain-> Analysis -> Analyze Point command, select the terrain model, and then the contour, to get a contour to display as a geometric feature (polyline, Openroads geometry, whatever) but I have not had any luck in getting a contour to render as a selectable line using this command. I have only been able to get triangles to display using this tool.
I am attempting to extract existing retention basins from a large OG Terrain Model.
Thank you for your help! It is very much appreciated.
Hi Matt,
I don't believe it's meant to work that way. Have you tried using the Clipped Terrain command to create a smaller terrain from a bigger one.

Hey Mark,
I thought about that, thank you for the suggestion, but if I go that route I would need a boundary to clip too, and instead creating a boundary to clip too with geometry tools I would rather clip to a contour of the basin which would be more accurate and must easier. There are 30 of these basins to “model” so it’s not just me being lazy :-)
While I'm not sure how well this would work (but it might) you could make a copy of your terrain drawing and try this.

Matt, I am working with a client right now on a workflow very similar to this, and have had good luck with the Analysis Point and then using that contour to generate a clipped terrain. A couple thoughts: Is the "Display Contours" checked in the Tool Settings Dialog? Is the contour you are using closed? Are you working in a 2D or 3D file? (I am in a 3D model and don't know if working in a 2D model would impact this at all.)
