In AutoCAD, there is a pretty easy way to set the right click to end commands or go to the selection tool would be the equivalent for ORD. Is there a way to customize the Right click or both buttons at once or even pushing down on the scroll wheel to default to the selection tool and end your current command?
You may be able to combine Button Mapping and a custom button menu to get what you are looking for.I would also point out that there is a Preference to allow for the ESC key to function the same way as AutoCAD (Cancel current function and default to selection)

Specifically for element selection under the action you would enter the keyin for the element selection tool which is "choose element"
