placing text labels with delimit line

im trying to place text with a delimit line similar to SS10 geopak but Openroads doesnt have the plan labeling tool, is there a way to place text like below in openroads

  • OpenRoads does indeed have Label tools, Annotation Groups, Text Favorites and all that. They just require a bit of setup; no more developing them on the fly...

You can go online to the Bentley Learn Server and look for "16 - OpenRoads Designer Workspace Setup (For CAD Administrators) Learning Path" this has a couple of modules about setting up the annotation tools.

  • Hey Gonzalo,  I ran into this in the FDOT workspace and training.  They don't give us one for "Roadway" per-say.  You'll need to try using the cell listed as ROW sta. offset rather than the text-favorite mentioned in training when you use the "Place Label" tool.  If you open the FDOTConnect standards folder (ours is C:\FDOTConnect\Organization-Civil\FDOT\Cell ) and open the ROW_Planviewlabeling.cel  file.  There you can copy any of the sta offset cell models and name them what you want and format as needed. It's important to keep the integrity of the "Text favorites" used within those cells or create your own from scratch.  Another note... Apparently the workspace only loads specific cel files for the label tool.  It must need to be hard coded. I'm curious if anyone in the forums knows where/how to assign these.  By adding my Roadway version to that ROW cel file, I was able to get it to show up in the tool dropdown 'Cell" option.  Simply placing a new  Roadway_PlanviewLabeling.cel file wasn't doing the trick.

  • I looked through a couple of the Bentley Videos mentioned by Mary, some worked, others didnt help. i tried creating my own cell but now the placement of they are off a bit. they are connecting to the center of the cell instead of the edge. the video didnt really explain the point of origin like when create new cells. it could be the same just have tested it yet.

  • One thing that gets mentioned in the videos, but (IMO) glaced over is the fact that a label cell has to have a "Frame" element around it for the leader to attach to the sides of the label. This Frame can be placed on any "no-plot" level, or as a Construction Element, so that it doesn't actually plot. I plan to put mine on a "no plot" level in a dark grey color so I don't really see it...But this box (or other closed element) is necessary to give an element location for the leader to attach to; otherwise it attaches itself to the center of the text.

A small but important detail that is easily missed.

  • Here's a screenshot of the cell I've added.  I noticed all I had to do was to open that library from the regular cell placement tool.  Once the DGN sees that *.cel file active the "Place Label tool" list will populate with those new cells. Also note that any dimension styles using the same name as your cell will automatically load... so make one that has the formatting you need for said text cell (e.g. no arrow, no horz. leader, etc).  From there, all you need to do is ensure the text annotation scale works in the PLANRD file (if you used FDOT text styles, they should work).  The "Line" in the cell is a standard line that already existed in the ROW_PlanviewLabels.cel file.  I deleted all other irrelevant cells from that file once I had what I needed formatted correctly.
