In ORD, I have a 10km road alignment, Start Station:0+000, End Station: 10+000
When I tried to revise the Horizontal Alignment between km 4+000 to 5+000, The vertical Profile Levels of the unchanged Horizontal portions also revised automatically.
In Mx , when we revise the horizontal alignment, the vertical alignment elements for the effected portion deleted, we need to revise the vertical alignment, but the vertical profile levels at unchanged portion does not change.
Actually, Vertical alignment levels, for the unaffected portion of the Horizontal alignment , During Horizontal alignment revision should not have changed in ORD

Ive used complex redefine for any amendments to the horizontal, this maintains the current vertical alignment (you will need to ensure you use a curve from / straight from at both tie in points from your redefining alignment to your current alignment) you may get some chainage slip on the vertical. I have used the transform tool (geometry tab) to slide the vertical to match the station slip. This has worked great. Like you, used this on a 10km project

Totally agree that's the way I do it as well and it works very well. For the MX guys above complex redefine is similar to the MX swap link. I also think that the profile shift we see has something to do with snapping to the existing ground surface which then with persist snap on creates the rule which the profile will then need to solve. So I tend to only to create the rule at the start of end of my alignment and where ever possible do not create a rule in between.

We used to create profile reports with XYZs of the PIs and then comparing it after complex redefine and XYZs along the portions that were not changed in plan didn't change. As you said, I would attribute profile shifts to the snaps.
