Hi, we are experiencing voids in volume meshes produced by the Create Cut Fill Volumes function. The voids appear in random locations along corridors in Fill and Cut meshes and re-appear in the same locations when re-applying the Create Cut Fill Volumes function. We haven’t experienced this issue in ORD 2020 R2.
Has any one seen this issue in ORD 2020 R3?
Regards,
Mariusz
Hi Mariuz,
Try using the Close Mesh Voids tool to "close" those holes. We have found these seem to be a visual issue as the volumes look to be correct even after the voids are closed.

Thanks Mark,
The Close Mesh Voids function doesn't seem to close the triangular voids. It only closes start and end of a segment of a mesh i.e. when analysed within a named boundary (mesh created with Display Clipped Graphics active of the Quantities Report by Named Boundary).
The volume reported before and after closing voids function is the same. However, it seems to exclude the voids volumes. So in the example below I estimate approx 1100 m3 of fill is missing in the reported fill volume.

Have you managed to check the actual volumes?
OpenRoads Designer 2022 R1
hmm, i have only been getting grids like these that i have to resolve and volumes have been correct when checked compared to EAV
If you calculate what the triangular volume would be does that equal the missing 1100m3?
Yes Mark correct, the summary volume of both these triangular voids is approx 1100m3.
Have you tried simple cut / fill without calculating unsuitable, custom and substrata?
yes, we have and havent seen the issue you have happening. How was the existing Terrain created?
The terrain is a complex terrain made of mix of terrains form point cloud and topo surveys. In this particular location it's a topo part in the complex but the problem happens in various locations.
I have also tested the same corridor in ORD 2020 R2 and I haven't got any of the voids and the fill volume value in the same named boundary is 10799m3. So the actual voids are 1129 m3 (10799-9670) which are missing in the fill reported in ORD 2020 R3.
I have logged a SR and will come back here if I have any conclusions.
