Greetings,
We are trying to place a workspace from our local network into PW using the Bentley import tools and following the videos at this link:https://communities.bentley.com/products/road___site_design/w/road_and_site_design__wiki/38760/video-how-to-deploy-a-dynamic-projectwise-managed-workspace
It's not working as intended and is reading very few of the workspace/workset files. We did make note of the ORD/PW compatibility chart:
https://docs.bentley.com/LiveContent/web/ProjectWise%20Version%20Support%20Matrix-v1/en/GUID-1A2E193F-C3D9-4709-92A2-E5B9301B5946.html
We are on a hosted PW server; it is version 10.00.03.140. We are trying to deploy ORD 2020R3 (Update 9). They are not listed as compatible in this matrix, but we have a feeling an awful lot of folks besides us would be seeing issues with this combination if the compatibility were the cause of the issues. I wanted to ask: what is it between these versions of the software that is incompatible? Or, has this combination of versions simply not been tested and then certified? We're guessing the later, but wanted to be sure.
Thanks!
An update: our ORD PW workspace is now working. The compatibility question does not seem to be affecting our particular ORD/PW combination.
Thank you so much for your own update- as it were. Could you let us know particular issues which were resolved and a short narrative of the procedure involved? We are not currently within a PW environment, but may be in the near future. Any issues and their resolutions would certainly be welcome.
Best Regards,
Mark
Mark, I don't know of a good way of describing things succinctly, but 'I'll try. There is a series of 5-6 videos posted from Bentley about deploying a workspace to a PW environment that were the biggest help (they are all linked in one post by Holly Herring). You must ensure the workspace is working in a non-PW environment, first. That aside, we found the key issue was trying to see which folder names were analogous to those being presented on the Bentley Videos. It was our experience that the slower things were and the longer they took to upload, and the more files were being read, and the more likely it was that things were working as intended. The other thing of note: be careful as to which folders are PW work areas and not simply "regular" folders. If those are not correctly defined/created, nothing will read as intended. Lastly, I would be remiss unless I mentioned the help Kevin McDonald (Bentley Systems) provided to us in getting us up and running.
EXCELLENT! Thank you so much for providing this information. I so appreciate your efforts here and I am sure that the community does as well!
Wow! The ORD/PW compatibility chart is huge! We recently went through a similar exercise. I have some posts which describe some of my issues. As usual, some were self inflicted - folder permissions, for example.
This was my first foray into creating a managed workspace from scratch. But given the differences between V8 and CE, I'm not sure past efforts would have been that useful in the process. I also used this opportunity to learn how to export and import a workspace. A few videos on that topic might be beneficial to others too. We have three datasources, so getting the bugs out on one makes it fairly easy to make it available on the other two.
