ORD - Path of Automatically Attached Default-3D Model

Hi, when a Default (2d) model of a reference file is attached into a 2d view, then normally a Default-3D model of that reference file is automatically attached into a 3d view. The 2d model is normally attached with a relative path (when SaveRelativePath=1 is included in MS_REF_DEFAULTSETTINGS). However, the auto-attached Default-3D model is attached with a full path. Is there a way to make the auto-attached model to get automatically attached with a relative path?

  • Hi, I am still trying to figure this out.

We are finding that sometimes 3D model is attached with relative path but in most cases not (i.e. with full path). In addition, when 3D cut is created in a profile view, the attachment in profile view has also full path.

This is causing issues with incorrect files being loaded when entire folder with dgn files are copied. We use this workflow for optioneering which is very efficient as it does not require file name change and re-attaching corridors to geometry files with different names. Essentially option or version name is included in folder name.

I believe relative paths are also used in ProjectWise.

I would really appreciate if someone has a solution to share.

  • Oh and although it seems Projectwise has relative referencing it doesn't quite - it is relative to your bms working dir and is fixed to the document by its ID. The option for relative parking in PW would be great for optioneering to avoid having to repath ref to option copies etc.

  • Yeah, I am not sure how exactly it works in PW, but outside PW using folder name, as opposed to changing file name, has saved us tones of time and we do optioneering all the time - even if not formal design option but as revisions. Setting folder structure per "model" rather than per file type is a key here as well.
