After processing a points file and making any edits, I find that some of the shots are not in an order that I can "connect the dots".
An example would be two white traffic lines approaching a stop bar. The shots are taken in this order. Staring with the one closest to the middle of the road shots t and 2 are taken, Then the collector turns right, walks over to the other line closest towards the curb and take shots 3 and 4. The collector then turns to the left, walks back to the original line and takes shots 5 and 6.
Obviously OpenRoads is only going to give you what you gave it (how many decades on are we and this is still true). I have tried a couple of time to re-number just by selecting the points but that doesn't seem to work. While I think that's what needs to be done, I must be missing something.
Mark - If you try to renumber a point name to a name that already exists it won't make the change. Could this be the case for you? Try giving a point a unique name and see if it will save.

Hey, Holly, thanks for responding! What I tried was to rename a number by adding an underscore "_" and a number (usually 1 as in "_1") to the old number, give another number it's number. So, for example a off sequence like 43, 44, 46, 45, with 46 being out of stop, I'd rename 46 to 46_1, 45 to 46, then 46_1 to 45, giving 43, 44,45, 46. When I would try to get the line feature to follow the new path, it just reverted to the old path. So there's another step to that I've missed.
I think you are correct about the unique number aspect. This may be a case of operator error on my part! ;)
Do you not use linking codes?
Not consciously - yet. Talk more about that!
Was thinking of something else... I do indeed use the link codes! Especially the End one which helps clean up the occasional rogue line trying to connect with something at the opposite end of the project. I think I tried to use them to sort out the seeming mis-numbered stuff, but it didn't solve my problem.
You know you can run more than one survey chain at a time.
1 start eop1
2 shot on eop1
3 start eop2
4 shot on eop2
5 end eop1
6 end eop2
I've never changed the order of the point numbers. Your survey is processed from the beginning of file to the end of file in that order. Point numbers do not matter. (other programs will let you change this and maybe so will ORD, but I've never seen any process a survey that way)
