  • This is Micrstation feature so nothing specific for ORD.

Don't waste your time it won't be too usable or look good unless there is a trick. Even Bentley provided 3D lines do not work well not to mention 3D fence linestyle which is example how not to create linestyle as each symbol is 10MB in size.

    Look how awesome they are...not:

If video doesn't show download it here - communities.bentley.com/.../Awesome_2D00_3D_2D00_linestyle.mp4

  • These linestyles have a limited use. On one hand, I happen to like them for presentations and public meetings. On the other, they are really only useful for exactly these sorts of things, IMO. It is quite useless to treat them as ORD solids, even if they could be "sliced" (which they cannot). That fence linestyle is quite a nightmare to use as it is EXTREMELY resource heavy. I placed it at one point through these past few years and though "cool!"; and then, "not so cool".

    Just my two pennies...

That is a point if Bentley can't provide correct examples then what to expect from users. I could easy make the fence linestyle less resource hungry by using common sense but just waiting for Bentley to finally document best practices as for last 20 years it is still a technology preview. Crazy that 3D linestyles are utilized as standard in ORD when it is not fully supported and documented.

At least provide us with GC example models to start with - Generative Component (GC) to create Crash Barrier - YouTube

  • I am familiar with the term "Generative Components", but not the methodology The video link you have supplied here, Oto, is of extreme interest to me and would certainly have some great uses. Thank you for providing this clip!
