Hello,
I recently had a newer version of OpenRoads loaded on my computer (OpenRoads Designer CE - 2021 Release 1) and I am having issues with the Cross Section Annotation Group.
What I am doing:
Explorer
- OpenRoads Standards
- Click on my file
- Annotation Groups
- Cross Section
- Drawing
- Select the annotation to use (in my setup - XS Grid w/Annotation)
Then I open the Properties Dialog
- Annotation Group
- Annotation List = Varies (This is where the problem begins, when I click on Varies)
Once I click on the varies it is suppose to open the "Manage Annotation" dialog box. It acts like it is opening, then I get a "OpenRoadsDesigner has stopped working" window. When I click on the Not Now button, another Warning pops up to Abort, Retry or Ignore. I have tried all 3. When I select the Retry or Ignore - all the information appears in the Manage Annotations Dialog box. But if I click on anything, the whole OpenRoads Designer disappears, like it closed out of everything. Projectwise still shows the file as check out.
Any help on how to fix this will be appreciated.
~Chris
Chris,
Does this happen when opening the Annotation Group for any dgn/dgnlib and any Annotation Group in the dgn? If so, then please delete this file here: C:\Users\<user.name>\AppData\Local\Bentley\OpenRoadsDesigner\10.0.0. It will automatically recreate when you launch ORD. If it is specific to Annotation Group within a dgn/dgnlib I recommend trying to delete it and recreate it. The Annotation Definitions will maintain so you would just add them back to a new Annotation Group.

Hello Holly,
I deleted the file and the issue still exists. I narrowed it down to just the one annotation group that crashes my computer. The DOT I work for did not give cross section annotation group much thought when creating the workspace. We only have 3 groups to choose from. One group does nothing, the other one seems to annotate everything and looks like a big blob of text and the last one, that crashes, annotates every top point and segment. I tried reaching out to our CAD support with not much help. I have watched a few youtube videos on how to set up Cross Section annotation groups, but I still can not get then to annotate like they do in the videos. Do you know where I can download an annotation group .XML file that already has this figured out?
Thank you for your help,
Ok, I figured out why my computer kept crashing. You have to load/open the .itl file your corridor was created from before you can mange the annotation group.
Now the new issue I am running into, I can not individually select the segments (slope annotation) I want to annotate. It is annotating every top segment from my template. At 40 scale this overlaps and clutters the XS. Also it is applying 2 annotation on top of each other. You have to delete the annotation twice for it to disappear. I think it has something to do with Left slope annotation and right slope annotation performing the same steps.
I have tried to creating a new linear annotation group and filtered the segments to "create list of segments" and selected the segments I wanted to annotate.
I don't know where to fix it from here. You would think if you selected the segments from a list you created it would only annotate those segment. Is it in the text favorites, or something in the template, or a bug in ORD program?
Any information will help.
This appears to be a bug in 2021 R1. There is a thread discussing this below.
https://communities.bentley.com/products/road___site_design/f/geopak-inroads-mx-openroads-forum/219468/ord-2021-r1-annotating-xs-with-slope-for-listed-segments
I found a workaround and described in my post on Oct 18, 2021 within the thread above.
