So i have 2 files one is EXISTING-STORM.dgn and one is PROPOSED-STORM.dgn. Both contain the nodes and conduits for the respective storm systems.
The nodes and conduits have been placed using the default installed libraries of pipes and manholes.
When i project the hydraulic runs on to a profile, both of the systems appear on the Util_Storm_Conduits and Util_Storm_Nodes layers.
I cannot figure out how to seperate them into Util_Storm_Conduit and Util_Storm_Conduit_PROPOSED layers so i can set seperate level overrides.
I can map them over but if i make changes or have to reload the references, that gets lost.
I looked at the Template Manager and made a copy of the StormWater folder and called it StormWater-Proposed and changed the layers for all the subcatagories to *-PROPOSED.
I went thru in plan view and changed the nodes and conduits of the proposed system to the PROPOSED template but it isnt working.
Long story short, need to place existing features and proposed features so they appear in plan, profile, and section on different layers. We had this working in Inroads by having 2 seperate symbologies and feature styles.
Do i need to have seperate conduit and node libraries for each proposed and existing?
Please help as i am starting a large new job and would love to have this fixed before proceeding further.
Hello Robin,
if I understand your situation correctly, your default WorkSpace may not be robust enough to allow you to do what you want. You may need to set up different Feature Definitions for existing vs. proposed elements. The feature definition calls up a feature symbology, which then calls up element templates, which then specify the symbology (including levels) as well as which cells to use. This set up allows you to also determine how elements appear in plan, profile, and 3D views. This is all called up when you select a WorkSpace when opening a file. The configuration of that WorkSpace will decide which DGN libraries (containing your feature definitions, feature symbologies, element templates, cell libraries, etc.) will be available and used when creating elements such as Drainage and Utility nodes and conduits. If you are not familiar with this process, here is a place to start:
