When I open MicroStation or OpenRoads on my PC, the display often has trouble. This most frequently manifests as certain icons disappearing when I hover over them, or menu selection graphics expanding to take up the entire window.
This is what happens when I navigate my mouse icon over menu items in the setup display. I can still see the icons when my mouse is directly over them, but when I remove the mouse, they disappear:
This carries over inside the project as well. Icons will randomly disappear if I switch windows or mouse over them:
about half the icons in the Home tab are gone here.
Other employees in the office have used this program on other computers without facing these sorts of glitches, which leads me to hypothesize that the problem might be my PC. Below are the specs of the computer I'm using:
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700F CPU @ 2.90GHz 2.90 GHzInstalled RAM 32.0 GB (31.8 GB usable)System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
As well as my Windows specs:
Edition Windows 10 ProVersion 20H2Installed on 4/22/2021OS build 19042.1415Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.3920.0
Could this be the issue, or is there something I'm missing here?
Hi Ryan
Can I assume that you have a Dell laptop?
We had exactly the same issues with SewerGEMS:https://communities.bentley.com/products/hydraulics___hydrology/f/haestad-hydraulics-and-hydrology-forum/224420/openflows-sewergems---graphical-glitches-caused-by-alienware-software-on-dell-pcs-resolved
The issue is created by the Alienware Command Centre. If you have AWCC, you will have to add the various OpenRoads executable files to the BlackApps.dat file.
I hope this resolves your issue!

My computer was manufactured by Dell, but it isn't a laptop; I am not sure if that makes a difference, but it is a full PC. I do have Alienware installed on this computer, however I am having trouble locating BlackApps.dat. Would you happen to have the file path on hand?
C:\ProgramData\A-Volute\DellInc.AlienwareSoundCenter\Modules\ScheduledModules\Configurator\
Editing BlackApps.dat was the solution! With those programs added to my exceptions, I was able to use MicroStation and OpenRoads with no more visual glitches! Many thanks for your assistance!
Thanks for sharing the solution!
It is weird when a source of the problem is HW manufacturer application :-(

Jan
