Hello everyone. I am having an issue with Bentley OpenRoads Designer, and would like to ask for help/advice here.
I am currently working on a project using a slightly older version of ORD. I created plan view and profile view sheets as I usually do, using the Named Boundary to create it. Immediately after creating the sheets, I tried opening them, but for all of them, I get the following message:
"The data in this file is from a newer version of a Civil Product:OpenRoads Designer Update 9 (10.09.00.91)
This file cannot be edited with:OpenRoads Designer CONNECT Edition 2020 Release 3 (10.09.00.91)
Press OK to view the file ReadOnly.Press Cancel to close without opening the file."
This didn't make sense to me, as I had just created the sheets myself, so I didn't understand how I could have used a newer version of ORD to create the sheets. Additionally, the software version numbers given in the message were identical (though the specific name was different).
I decided to try an experiment. I created another plan view sheet (using a different alignment from a different reference), and set it to "Open Model". It created and automatically opened the sheet file, so I drew a line in the sheet, then saved it. I attempted to reopen the file, but I got the same message as before. I opened it as Read Only, and when it opened, I found that the line I had drawn was still in the sheet. So it seems that if I set it to open the sheet automatically after generating it, I can edit the sheet file. But if I close it and attempt to reopen it, it no longer works.
I can update the file version then edit the file using a newer version of ORD (10.10, I believe), but we have been instructed not to do this for compatibility reasons.
Additionally, in case it matters, we are using ProjectWise for this project.
Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening to the sheets I create? And does anyone have a solution to this issue?
If more information is needed, please let me know.
Matthew:
Do you happen to have both an earlier version of OpenRoads and the latest version of OpenRoads parallelly installed? We had an issue here with having both versions running in this manner- even with segregated workspaces- and had similar issues arise.
Just a thought...
Mark
I would use Civil File Manager to check the schema version of the sheet seed in the workspace.

Hello Mark: Yes, I do have two versions installed in parallel. I believe we understood that this is a feature that Bentley advertised. So it sounds like this is bugged, then? Is there a workaround, or will simply temporarily uninstalling the newer version work?
Chris: I did this, and found something potentially interesting. I checked all of the files I created. In the "Schema Details" tab, "Version" column, all of the entries are Version 10.09.00.91 (i.e. the version of the software used to create the files) EXCEPT for one, called "Bentley_Civil__Model_HydBaseSchema" which is Version 10.10.01.03 (i.e. the version of the newer ORD we have installed). So it looks like maybe Mark is onto something.
Any thoughts?
EDIT: I just uninstalled the newer version and tried to create sheets again. The issue remains unchanged. Despite not having 10.10.01.03 installed, when I create new sheets, the "Bentley_Civil__Model_HydBaseSchema" is still Version 10.10.01.03
That doesn't sound good...

@Mark - how did you solve this issue ? do you still have them running in parallel ?
