I was wondering if theres a simpler way to replace a drainage node with a different node type. IE i have an existing drainage layout but want to swap an inlet to another type without deleting and replacing the node in the same location.
I'm not sure what version of the software you're using, but you should be able to change the feature definition for the inlet that you need to replace. We've done work in this area of the code recently, so please give this a go, particularly if you are running 2021 Release 1 (or 2). We don't let you change the utility type - you can't change a storm water node to a water node for example, but you should be able to change a storm water inlet to a different type of inlet, or a manhole or headwall, for example.

I believe that it is simply an issue of right clicking and seeing the properties of the inlet and changing the inlet there, correct? Yes, a quite simple move here.

yeah that works thank you. apparently i have to select the node from the Explorer rather than selecting it in the drawing. selecting from the drawing the feature definition is greyed out.
When selecting in the drawing, confirm you are getting the content in the 2D model. If you have selected any linework from the self-referenced 3D model, that item is in a reference and not editable, and is hence greyed out. I tend to shut off the 3D node level in my 2D environment to simplify this action.
