Hey all-
does anyone know if there is a way to tell if a MicroStation file is V8i or CONNECT before opening it? Is there somewhere in the properties of the file one can tell in Windows explorer?
As we have users migrating to the new software, we are finding even with the notification that files are being converted (if double clicking it, which is a no no, we know.)
Thanks
We were just having the same discussion internally for our projects that are on Windows Fileservers as opposed to ProjectWise. Since we now have projects in SS10, ORD 2020 R3, and ORD 2021 R1 it would be WAY too easy for users to open files in the wrong program.
Our initial thought at this point (at least for the ORD projects) is to include a little script in the WorkSet cfg file that would essentially block and provide notice to a user if they have opened the DGN file using the wrong version.

Is there anything more automatic, so that users don't accidentally mess up files?

For OpenRoads DGN files the Civil File Manager can be used to help identify the version of OpenRoads last used to edit the DGN. See https://communities.bentley.com/products/road___site_design/w/road_and_site_design__wiki/51913/civil-file-manager
