Hello,
I am running spread analysis using ORD Utilities and Drainage workflow. Since this is our first project with the software, we are back checking its results with our trusty Excel sheets that are set up for spread analysis.
For our spread calculations, we use the following equation (From FDOT drainage design guide) to calculate our spread, and conservatively ignore gutter depression depths for curb inlets per the design guide. The utility information dialog seems to have no option to ignore gutter depth for curb inlets, which is causing some issues. Is there somewhere in the program to conservatively omit the gutter depth?
Thanks,
Emily
I've asked a colleague in the OpenFlows support team to respond to this question.
Hi Emily,
Is this for curb inlets on grade?
The gutter depression would impact the depth result as you can see in this article, but I am having trouble understanding how it would impact the spread, unless perhaps it is only for cases where the spread is less than the gutter width? can you provide more details?
There are some advanced options (in the Calculation Options) to control inlet calculation behavior but if I am understanding your question correctly, we do not have an option that causes the program to ignore the gutter depression. Could you simply set the "Depressed Gutter?" field to "False" in the Catchbasin properties? (so as not to model the gutter depression for that particular inlet).
