Thank you for the reply but that is not the issue. If I remove the linear annotation for the slopes from the annotation group altogether then no slopes are labeled in cross section view. As a check I looked at the surface feature definition which points to a surface feature symbology and the annotation group for that is for strip grades in the profile view.

I've seen some issues with the filter in this release. There's been extensive work done on XS filter and annotation in the 2021R2 build. As a test, I'd advise installing it to see if the filter works correctly.

I believe the annotation group assigned are found in the surface feature definition in the file being referenced. Check that those are set correctly. That feature definition and slope annotation may be set to one of your existing features.
