OpenRoads Designer Export from All Points Features window, revise, and re-import the csv back into

We need to revise points for a file. What was decided was to try and export the data from the file, make changes, and re-import. As I understand (@caddcop probably clued me on this), there is no real methodology to export data from an ORD file in the manner one could with PowerSurvey SS2. You can export all the information in the file from the Details Window (first blank cell at upper left, right-click, Export ). While it gives you far more than you need, the folks at the other end liked what they saw (I'd forgotten the Control Codes column where JoinPoint stuff resides). The decision was made to make the changes to that resulting csv file, and then import into a new file. In theory that should have worked.

Another nod to Chuck (@caddop) is that you can import csv files. Just right click over Field Book 1 (or whatever name is given)  and select Import. The first time I did that it worked! So naturally, eight months later, I did the same thing. Nothing. I then tried the Wizard. Also nothing.

I have a feeling that the first line of the csv, which has the titles from the Details window, needs to be deleted. Then I'll try to import that file. If that doesn't work, then I'll edit the csv to to delete all the columns save the 6 or 7 I typically have with a points file.

The goal here is to have a new file that looks pretty much like the old file, with the changes to certain points, and everything else as it was before these changes needed to be made.

I'm being extraordinarily hopeful that I can do this.

Thanks!

  • Couple of ideas.

Deleting the first line containing the cell headers will most likely resolve the import issue. (as you mentioned above)...or

Configure a TIW format. Text Import Wizard tool walks you through the import process step by step. Save the format at the end of the workflow with a unique name. This allows you to reuse the import format. Capture below.

Also, verify the Field book survey settings are matching the import configuration. Probably not the issue but worth looking into.

Delete any failed import events from the Data Files tree in the Project Explorer before re-importing.

    Take care,

    Cliff
