Turning off levels

Hello,

I am extremely new to this software so please bear with me. I am trying to turn off levels that I do not want to show up when I print. While I can turn them off in my file using Turn Off By Element, the hidden levels still appear when I print. Also when I close a file and reopen it, all the levels I had turned off before are turned back on again. Is there a way around this?

Thanks in advance!

  • In order to maintain your level display you must save settings before you exit the program or switch drawings. See attached screenshot. There is a save settings button in the main menu or you can set the program to save settings automatically when you exit a drawing. This is done by going to Settings > Preferences > Operation.

You can control level display for plotting by going into the level manager, right click on the top row and select Plot. This will display a new column showing the levels to be plotted. You can make adjustments here, unchecking levels you don't want to be plotted.

  • Matt has it covered if these levels are in your active file. If the levels are coming from Reference files, there are a couple of other settings that could affect level display retention.

Check the attachment settings to see if "Display Overrides" is set to Allow, Always or Never. If set to Never, you will not be allowed to save any level display changes for that file.

Another setting is called REFLEVELOVERRIDES. This is similar to that  attachment setting, but it is saved as part of the design file (as I understand it). This setting is analogous to the AutoCAD VISRETAIN setting, and probably introduced for compatibility. You can open the key-in window and enter SET REFLEVELOVERRIDES to see the current setting in the Message Center. If this is set to OFF, you can only make changes to reference level states; They will be discarded when the file is closed. In order to be able to make those reference level changes "permanent" you will need to use the key-in window to enter SET REFLEVELOVERRIDES ON, then Save Settings, and close & reopen your file. You can find mention of this setting about halfway down in this Wiki article; the rest of the article may be useful as well.
