Power Inroads SS10 V8i Consistent Crashes After 1 Click

Hello,

I recently switched to a newer laptop and am looking for some help to resolve a frequent crashing issue i have.

The crash is reproducible in any file with multiple commands;

  • two examples (place dimension (F2), snap, crash)
  • Or Measure distance (9-1) - Snap to point 1, crash.
  • Any file I open I can reproduce the problem
  • coworkers do not experience any of these problems and neither did I prior to switching laptops

I tried deleting my .upf file to generate a new one and it seems to let me execute a few commands normally before crashing again.

After that failed, i uninstalled and re-installed. Unfortunately that issue was still present.

EDIT: Adding new symptoms to describe the issue:

- Prior to executing commands that crash i noticed that the settings / "toolbox" ? window won't populate and allow me to adjust the command (e.g. change text attributes from 3 mm to 5 mm)

- I also posted some of the log files in a reply below this message

  • MnDOT is a GEOPAK user - so take this with a grain of salt. We found that GEOPAK's older software code was crashing newer hardware due to video card/driver incompatibility.  Our IT department was adjusting the driver settings for GEOPAK to force it to use specific card/driver capabilities.

The following was specific to our issue - but it may provide some direction for you to investigate. It may require Admin level access to apply.

To set the preferred graphics card when using GEOPAK, the following can be done.

    1. Go to “Display Settings” in windows.
    2. Scroll down and click on “Graphics Settings”.
    3. In the “Graphics Performance Settings” section, you would want to click “Browse”.
    4. Browse to the GEOPAK.exe, which is at “Program Files (x86)\Bentley\PowerGEOPAK V8i (SELECTSeries)\PowerGEOPAK”
    5. Double click/ select  “PowerGEOPAK.exe”
    6. Once the GEOPAK executable has been selected, Click on the “Options” button next to GEOPAK.
    7. It should ask the graphics preference. You would want to select the High Performance, which should be the NVIDIA graphics.
