[SS10] Mill-Resurface template assistance?

I am working on a resurfacing project where we are not doing any slope correction. We are simply grinding off the top couple inches of asphalt and laying back new.

I'm getting a little confused on whether I need to create a milling component or an overlay component, or both. Basically I need a component that will follow the existing surface on the top, and follow the existing surface a couple inches down on the bottom.

Is that Milling? Is that an overlay? I've seen a few posts here about this sort of thing, but none of them have answers, so I'm mystified.
I have both Geopak and InRoads, but the Openroads tech is the same in either.

Thank you.

  • I looked at that, and it doesn't show what I am looking for, so I'm not sure what to use.

In that example, the overlay component is a line that attaches to the bottom of a simple/constrained surface component. When that surface component comes up above the existing ground, the overlay fills in the gaps. It follows the component on the top and the surface on the bottom.

The milling component is a line that attaches to the bottom of a simple/constrained surface component. When that surface component goes below the existing ground, the milling "cuts up" to the ground line. It follows the surface on the top and the component on the bottom.

I need something that will follow the surface on the top AND a constant offset from the surface from the bottom. The training example doesn't show that, and it always shows the milling/overlay components in combination with another simple/constrained component. The training example does not make it clear that they could exist independently.
