Folks:
I have an inquiry for all of you who have dealing with Item types/ Asset Manager. When I define the properties of a template, the areas represented on the template * the distance I am running my corridor calculates in exactly the manner in which I would expect, presenting me a volume of material (and attaches the correct Pay Item, Description, etc. based upon the assigned data for the component). I would like to get the linear length of a particular material- curb and gutter for instance- by assigning a template component to the curb and gutter and have it calculate not the volume of the curb and gutter but rather the length of the curb and gutter. Is such possible, or would I be forced to use one of the template linear features to receive this quantity? I ask this question because I would much rather calculate and have assigned the Pay Item number and other attributes to one area of the template (Components) rather than two (Components and Linear). I believe that MicroStation can do this with solids, but can OpenRoads do this with a mesh?
Thanks in Advance
Mark
For the curb of fixed area of section you can add it as a property within Item Type and then with expression calculate Volume/Area to get curb length. However we usually assign Pay Item to the Feature Definition of one of the points on a template and then get linear object with length for our BOQ.

Adam

Hi Mark,
Did you ever look into this? If so, did you have any luck?

Ryan

To tell you the truth, I quite forgot about it until you posted here, and no, I must have had to go onto other things. Mark S. seems to have come up with the best idea, but still...
Unfortunately not, there doesn't seems to be a relationship from a mesh to any linear features that define it (that I can figure out how to access). Really hope something happens in this space as linear Infrastructure projects really need this information...

Mark:
Thank you so much for a certain confirmation. I know that many are assigning a payitem to a particular FD (i.e., Top of Curb) and then running that FD to produce a linear quantity ( as Adam has mentioned above). Regardless, the whole situation is a bit infuriating as I like to keep my entire workspace clean and beyond guesswork as to such things.
Thanks for the replies Mark P and Mark S. I also hope something happens in this space soon as we are getting asked to add length data onto our models on almost every project now.
You are welcome, and Mr. Shamoun would agree, I am sure. We are in this thing together (for better and for worse, LOL)
