Vertical Gore Tool

I am having trouble using the Vertical Gore Tool.  The command runs fine but when the surface is created there are no features.  I have run this a couple of times and there are no features associated with the surface or InRoads crashes on me.  I already have a vertical alignment  and I'm not sure if that is causing the problem or not.  I am having trouble get an entrance ramp surface and mainline surface to combine smoothly.  One template was created for the entire job with point controls and parametric constraints limiting lane widths and shoulder slopes.  Please advise if there is an easier way or if I should drop more templates.  Thanks.
